Denmark’s Travel Restrictions Removed on 29th March

In a move to return to normality, and in the trend of many other fantastic destinations in the first quarter of 2022, it was announced and put into action yesterday, Tuesday the 29th of March, that Denmark’s travel restrictions were to be removed.  

After an announcement from Danish Health Minister, Magnus Heunicke, Denmark’s travel restrictions were completely removed for all travellers entering after midnight on Tuesday the 29th of March.  

This means all covid related requirements such as testing and self-isolation have been removed, a move which has been reflected and confirmed on the Foreign Travel Advice page, where Demark’s entry requirements have been removed.  

This move makes Denmark the first EU nation to remove all travel requirements and entry rules for travellers following the same move made by the UK earlier this month.  

Previously, all travellers who were not vaccinated, were only partially vaccinated, or were vaccinated with a vaccine program not approved by the EU health authorities were required to take a Covid test within 24 hours pre-departure. 

It has also been stated that travellers will no longer be required to wear face masks or present their vaccination certificates when they enter bars, restaurants, and other indoor venues in Denmark.  

The Danish Health Minister, Magnus Heunicke, said, “No one can know what will happen next December. But we promised the citizens of Denmark that we will only have restrictions if they are truly necessary, and we’ll lift them as soon as we can. That’s what’s happening right now.” 

It was clarified that the Danish authorities are still closely monitoring the virus in Denmark and internationally. If it is necessary, emergency action may be taken, but the tourism industry and its consumers are optimistic.  

A spokesperson for Visit Denmark also stated, “From 29 March, you no longer need a test if you are not vaccinated or if your vaccine isn’t recognised in the EU or if you are from outside the EU and formerly infected.”
