Following strike action that was scheduled to take place at Birmingham Airport in the coming weeks, new reports have been released with the excellent news that a new pay agreement has been settled.
Over 150 staff at Birmingham Airport were set to take part in strike action next week. This included security officers and terminal technicians, but the strike action has now been officially called off following the acceptance of the newest pay offer.
The strike was originally scheduled with the Unite union for Birmingham Airport workers and industrial action was announced in June. This action was subsequently suspended when the latest pay offer was proposed and this deal has now been accepted, calling off the strike entirely.
The strike had originally been set to take place on Tuesday the 1st of August. On Thursday the 27th of July, Unite came forward and confirmed that the staff members at Birmingham Airport have now accepted a deal for one-year pay, setting their pay to increase by 13.25%.
Following the deal that was made, two new Unite workplace reps have been put in place to support the greater collective of employees and increase access for staff to union organising across the airport.
Sharon Graham, the Unite general secretary, said, “Unite’s Birmingham airport workers secured this deal because they stood strong in their union. Once again, Unite’s absolute concentration on delivering improvements to jobs, pay and conditions has paid off for our members.”
