A warning from the Foreign Office was released this week for all UK travellers to France as there are expected to be several travel disruptions next week following a select number of French strikes that were announced recently.
Several unions in the country have announced French strike actions for next week commencing Monday the 6th of February. The announcement of the French strike actions came following mass protests against a planned increase to the French pension age on the 19th of January. The protests had a huge impact on flight travel and rail travel, leading to the arranged warning from the FCDO advice page concerning the upcoming French strike actions.
According to reports, the strike cross-sector demonstrations will be held in France on Tuesday the 7th of February and Saturday the 11th of February. The FCDO warned all UK travellers to France that these actions may start the night before and run into the following morning on both occasions.
“Several unions have called for cross-sector strike action and demonstrations on Tuesday 7 and Saturday 11 February. Industrial action may start the evening before a strike day and run until the morning after,” the FCDO said. “Localised or sector specific strikes could also occur outside these dates.
“Industrial action may lead to disruption to services. Please check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”
