Gorgeous scenery soaring past the window, a fresh breeze sweeping through with the sun shining down on your face, the thrill of exploration with miles trailing past and a glimpse of spectacular places you may need to revisit someday soon. A good road trip adventure can take you places you never predicted finding and great places you’ve always wanted to see, all to the soundtrack of good music and even better company.

With the world increasingly easier to see in the 21st century, there’s nothing quite like a road trip to truly take it all in. Whether you’re touring the UK, travelling to visit family via the scenic route, going on an adventure with a group of friends, or taking the chance to explore an entirely different world with just your car and some music to keep you company, there are so many fantastic road trip destinations around the world.

We couldn’t possibly explore all of them in this single journey, but if you’re yearning for your next road trip, or perhaps you’re ready to set out on a road trip for the first time, here are some of the top road trip destinations in the world.

The United States of America

Perhaps one of the world’s most famous road trip destinations, the USA is expansive with diverse terrain, beautiful places to visit on your journey, and some good, smooth roads for an excellent trip. It also helps that some of the favourite road trip states in the USA are known for having a really pleasant climate for cruising along the road.

The Pacific Coast Highway in California is one of the most well-loved routes for a USA road trip next to Route 66, which spans 8 states across the US. The Pacific Coast Highway takes in some fantastic scenery, cruising along the coast for a stunning shot of the ocean. From San Diego to Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle and beyond, this route will take you on a tour through some of California’s famous attractions with the best scenic views along the way.

All of the states have such differing and thriving characters, so you won’t want to limit yourself to just one excellent road trip in the US. In fact, you could probably go on a very long holiday made up of several road trips if you’re feeling ambitious. Why not try out the beautiful Going-to-the-Sun Road journey in Montana, the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, or tour the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. The possibilities are limitless.
