As of June 2nd, 2021, we are on the verge of getting our second update for the next green list countries, alongside updated amber, and red list destinations during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an exciting, and a daunting prospect, but one we have a few predictions (and hopes) for. This could be our proper first taste of how the progress of travel will be looking in the near future.

Some countries are widely suspected to be exiting the amber list. Whether they’re moving to green, to the watch list, or to red, we will have more options, and a clearer view of travel within the next fortnight.

There are also countries very ready to leave amber and welcome travellers from the UK. And so, it’s going to be an interesting moment to see how things shift.

What Destinations Are Most Likely to Been The Next Green List Countries?

Based on the discussions among the government and the travel industry, there is a set list of suspects for the green list.

This includes: Malta, Finland, Grenada, the Cayman Islands, Fiji, the British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Turks and Caicos and Anguilla. All these destinations that Boris Johnson has stated likely to be green in the June update.

One of our own previous predictions, Antigua and Barbuda, are on this list of possibilities, so if you’d like to learn more about exactly why you should be so excited to take a visit to those islands, you can take a look at our blog on the gorgeous Antigua and Barbuda.

The US is another destination that’s being investigated. With a lot of demand from the travel industry to open travel to the US, from both sides, there are a lot of fingers crossed considering the speed of their vaccine roll-out.

What Other Predictions Have Been Made?

Some travel experts have agreed with a few of the prime minister’s predictions, with particular confidence in Malta as one of the next green list countries.

There has also been some indication towards The Canary Islands and The Balearic Islands (including Majorca and Ibiza) for a sunny get away.

Other popular predictions include Barbados and Bermuda, along with a handful of other Overseas British Territories like Turks and Caicos.

There was also some speculation around the addition of Norway, Romania, and Slovakia alongside the more certain addition on Finland. Since these places are much loved by UK tourists for holidays throughout the year, they’re looking prepared.

Alongside these, there are hopeful predictions for Spain and France sometime later in the summer. Spain’s Covid rates are improving rapidly, and some think they may make it onto the green list in June, with France less hopeful.

At the moment, this is a lot of speculation, but there is some certainty for places with good vaccine and Covid rates, so we’re all keeping an eye on the health of possible destinations.
