An excellent announcement has been released this week, as Chile has officially stated their plans to relax Covid entry requirements for all vaccinated arrivals from next month.

This comes partially in a bid to be “more competitive as a tourist destination” according to Chilean authorities. It is also a decision made and “supported by the high rate of vaccination in the population”, with a major portion of the population now fully vaccinated against Covid.

These changes are to come into effect on Thursday the 1st of September and will be updated on the Foreign Travel Advice page with further details for consumers soon. Following the change in rules, fully vaccinated travellers to Chile will no longer need to provide a negative PCR test pre-departure, nor will they need to complete the C19 form or show a Mobility Pass.

At present, all travellers must have a Mobility Pass in order to access bars, restaurants, gyms, and other public spaces in Chile. This pass can only be acquired if a traveller is approved as fully vaccinated.

From the 1st of September, unvaccinated travellers will also be permitted to enter Chile again. They will need proof of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours pre-departure as a replacement for proof of vaccination. Genomic surveillance will continue after the 1st of September, along with random testing at all the points of entry to Chile.

Maria Begona Yarza, Chile’s Minister of Health, said, “From September 1, non-residents who enter the country will need proof of vaccination, issued in the country where they have been vaccinated, in addition to identity documentation.

“Visitors without up-to-date vaccinations will have to present a negative PCR issued within a maximum of 48 hours. This will guarantee safety on the flight and in the country.”
