After a long 2-year hiatus from most international travel, there has been confirmation that India will lift the flight ban for international travellers from the 27th of March.

In March 2020 at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, the Indian government suspended most avenues for international flights looking to enter the country. This restriction has been in place through the 2 years following and many in the industry have been waiting to out when will India lift the flight ban.

This has excluded a limited number of flights from the UK to India thanks to a deal between the countries. However, the number of flights now able to travel to India from the UK will be significantly increased.

The country’s Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed the lift of the flight ban from Sunday the 27th of March. They said, “After having recognised the increased vaccination coverage across the globe and in consultation with the stakeholders, the Government of India has decided to resume scheduled commercial international passenger services to/from India from 27.03.2022, i.e. start of Summer Schedule 2022.”

This means that from Sunday the 27th of March, UK travellers will be able to travel to India under the following rules (these can be found on the Foreign Travel Advice page):

  • All travellers must EITHER:
    – Provide proof of a full course of an approved vaccination programme; or
    – Provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours pre-departure.
  • All travellers must also complete a self-declaration form on the Air Suvidha Portal.

This comes after the requirement for vaccinated travellers to self-isolate was lifted on February 14th.

After a long 2 years, it is excellent news to see India lift the flight ban for international travellers around the world. We can’t wait to see some fantastic holidays going ahead after March 27th.
