Italy Reopened to All Visitors and Dropped Restrictions

On Tuesday, the 31st of May, Ministry of Health authorities announced Italy has reopened to all visitors, dropping all Covid related restrictions from June.  

Italian authorities have confirmed this move. From Wednesday the 1st of June, all Covid-related entry restrictions for travellers have been dropped and Italy has reopened to visitors regardless of vaccination status.  

This means that Italy will be the next destination to join the 19 other EU countries that have dropped all entry restrictions, allowing visitors to enter without testing or vaccination. Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland are all already on the list of destinations travellers can enter without Covid related entry requirements.  

The Ministry of Health confirmed that with Italy reopened, the green Covid pass will no longer be a requirement for entry. From June there are also no longer any requirement for vaccination, recovery certificate, or any Covid tests upon entry.  

This comes after the heat of the pandemic when Italy was one of the strictest European destinations on entry requirements. Because of the high infection rates during the peak of the pandemic, Italy has been relatively closed off to travellers for the bulk of the past couple of years. With Italy reopened alongside many other top European destinations, it is now one of the most accessible countries. 

As of Wednesday, the 1st of June, the Foreign Travel Advice page was not yet up to date on these changes; however, an update is expected shortly from the Foreign Office.
