It was confirmed in an announcement this week, that Malta will be removing all pre-departure testing requirements for unvaccinated travellers this month.
According to Visit Malta, which confirmed the good news, from Monday the 25th of July, Malta will no longer require travellers to present evidence of a pre-departure test. This specifically applies to travellers who are not fully vaccinated, are unvaccinated, and have not recently recovered from Covid, who currently still need to take a pre-departure test as an alternative to being vaccinated.
Travellers to Malta who do not have a vaccine certificate for a full course of an approved vaccine programme, or a certificate of recovery from Covid, will not need a pre-departure test and may enter the country with minimal Covid-related restrictions.
At present, travellers to Malta need one of the following requirements to enter the country:
- A vaccine certificate showing evidence of a full course of vaccination,
- A recovery certificate providing proof that they have recovered from Covid recently; or
- A pre-departure test taken within 24 hours pre-departure if it is an antigen test, and within 72 hours pre-departure if it is a PCR test.
Following the change on Monday the 25th of July, however, proof of recovery or a negative pre-departure test will no longer be necessary. More detail on entry requirements for travellers to Malta can be found on the Foreign Travel Advice page, which receives live updates regularly.
This was updated and confirmed by Visit Malta on Tuesday the 12th of July and the Visit Malta page has updated its travel guidance to reflect the change. The update read, “As from the 25 July 2022, people travelling to Malta without a vaccine certificate, or a recovery certificate do not need to present a negative PCR/rapid test before arriving in Malta.”
