Many airlines have had to cancel a plethora of flights to Italy this week, with some cancelling at least 200 international and domestic flights because of the 24-hour strike in Italy set to take place this Friday.

The nationwide strike in Italy is set to take place for 24-hours over the course of Friday the 21st of October. Many flights that have yet to be cancelled are also due to face disruption because of this national strike in Italy. EasyJet has warned many industry businesses about this disruption. Travel businesses that specialise in travel to, from, and around Italy are expected to take the biggest hit.

According to the reports, this strike is expected to affect air traffic control and airport ground handling services in all Italian airports and airspace. We expect a potential update to the Foreign Travel Advice page this week, with some consumers concerned for their bookings.

“Like most airlines operating to and from Italy, we may see some disruption to our flying programme on this date,” EasyJet said in their warning to the travel industry.

“We advise customers travelling to, from or within Italy on Friday 21st October to allow additional time to travel to and from the airport and to check the status of their flights.

“Should any flights be cancelled then we will contact customers via email and SMS using the details provided at the time of booking and check in.

“For cancelled flights only, we advise customers not to travel to the airport but to transfer their flights free of charge or take a refund.

“Although this is outside of our control, we would like to reassure customers that we are doing all we can to minimise any disruption that may occur as a result of the strike action.”
