Qatar Updates Covid Travel Entry Rules for Visitors

Many sports and travel consumers and businesses are thrilled as the Middle Eastern country of Qatar has announced the relax of some of their entry requirements leading up to the World Cup this November.  

Qatar will be the very first Middle Eastern nation to host the World Cup in November, with a campaign from the country’s tourism sector showing off preparations and featuring David Beckham. These relaxed restrictions come just in time for some excited World Cup fans to travel to Qatar in November.  

Qatar authorities claimed this move came partially in response to the reports of record-breaking tourist numbers in July 2022. Qatar experienced a huge 151,000 tourists in July alone this year, prompting action from the tourism sector.  

These new entry rules were updated on the Foreign Travel Advice page by the FCDO, and went into action on Sunday the 4th of September.  

As of Sunday the 4th of September, travellers who visit Qatar will be required to present evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours pre-departure or evidence of a negative rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours pre-departure.  

Qatar has also announced the removal of their red travel list and the previously instated mask mandate for all travellers to the country. 

In order to enter the country, travellers to Qatar are required to register with Ehteraz, the pre-registration platform provided by Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health. Travellers must register with Ehteraz within 3 days prior to arrival, alongside downloading the app.
