Following an announcement on Friday the 19th of November, Tunisia is allowing under-18s to enter the country exempt from self-isolation and quarantine restrictions when they arrive with a fully vaccinated adult for a package holiday booking.

Before, under-18s were required to follow the restrictions of unvaccinated travellers and quarantine in a government-approved hotel for 7 days upon arrival. However, the Tunisia National Tourist Office (TNTO) has made a statement clarifying that under-18s will no longer have to follow these restrictions.

“We officially confirm that children under 18 years old are exempt from self-isolating when travelling with vaccinated adults on packaged holiday trips to Tunisia.

“This is not applicable for children under 18 years of age travelling with unvaccinated adults or on flight only (not within packaged tour holiday).

“Tourists must always follow the rules of the implemented Covid Health protocol in Tunisia as well as within hotels where they’re staying at,” the TNTO said.

The FCDO is still updating this information on the Foreign Travel Advice page, but we recommend checking it for further details. You can also visit the Discover Tunisia site for more details on the Covid Health protocol.

This update is great news for the winter sun destination and means that under-18s will now fall under the following travel restrictions for entry:

  • Travel with a fully vaccinated adult (this vaccine must have been administered at least 14 days before travel)
  • Travel on a package holiday (you can find out more about package holidays in our article)
  • Children over 12 must provide evidence of a pre-departure PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel

Deputy Director of the Tunisia National Tourist Office (TNTO), Fakhri Khalsi, expressed the tourism industry’s excitement at this great news, allowing more of the awesome winter sun family holidays that Tunisia is popular for. “The rules mean children travelling with fully vaccinated parents on package holidays including hotel, transport and flights are exempt from isolating,” he said.

“It’s great news, as our target is the family market. It’s the most important market to us.  If they don’t enjoy their stay they will not want to go.

“It’s good news for our partners and we are so excited to mark the return to tourism for 18 months.

“Everybody in Tunisia is happy for the return of British tourists. We are considered one of the best winter sun destinations.”
