Though August has only barely begun, good news is already coming in troves. According to reported statistics released last week, the number of flights leaving UK airports in August is set to come very close to 2019 levels.

Data was released last week that suggests that based on pre-booked flights set to take off from UK airports this month, August will reach 89% of 2019 levels for the same month that year.

Since October 2019, August 2023 is the month with the highest number of scheduled flights departing the UK. The data was collated by aviation analytics firm, Cirium, showing how far our post-pandemic recovery has already come.

In total, 92,549 flights are scheduled to take off from UK airports this month, with 16.5 million seats taken across all those flights. This comes in comparison to the 104,007 flights that departed the UK in August 2019.

UK flights scheduled to leave our airports in August are also up 11% on August 2022 and 101% on August 2021, according to the data. This accounts for both business and leisure trips from the UK as people get more active again.

As for where these flights are going, Turkey is currently recording the highest rebound, with 3,630 flights arriving from the UK this month. This is a 46% recovery from the 2,488 recorded in August 2019.

Croatia, Greece, Morocco, Portugal, and the USA have all seen an increase as well. On the flip side, Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland have all seen the biggest reduction in UK arrivals.

For August 2023, Dublin has however proved the most popular international destination, quickly followed by Amsterdam, Faro, Malaga, and Palma.
